Demografía: La Comisión publica un mapa interactivo que muestra los retos demográficos nacionales y las respuestas políticas

 La Comisión ha publicado hoy una cartografía interactiva, elaborada conjuntamente con las autoridades nacionales, que muestra los actuales retos demográficos nacionales de los Estados miembros y las respuestas políticas adoptadas para abordarlos.

En particular, la cartografía muestra, sobre la base de los datos de una encuesta de 2022 realizada por la Comisión y el Comité de Protección Social (CPS), que la mayoría de los Estados miembros se enfrentan tanto al envejecimiento como a la disminución de la población en edad de trabajar, junto con otros retos como la migración y la sostenibilidad de los sistemas de bienestar y de cuidados de larga duración.

La cartografía se ha añadido ahora al Atlas de Demografía, la herramienta interactiva de la Comisión destinada a ayudar a los ciudadanos y a las partes interesadas a comprender mejor los retos demográficos a través de los datos.

La vicepresidenta Dubravka Šuica ha declarado: «Abordar el cambio demográfico es fundamental para construir una economía más resiliente y sostenible y una sociedad más justa para el futuro. El cambio demográfico afecta de manera diferente a cada Estado miembro, pero también podemos identificar retos y tendencias comunes, aprendiendo unos de otros al diseñar respuestas políticas adecuadas. El mapa publicado hoy y añadido a nuestro Atlas de Demografía nos ayudará a hacerlo».

OVERVIEW

• Demographic knowledge is cross-cutting: demographic drivers and implications of territorial disparities across EU regions provide unique and detailed insights to tackle societal challenges and to even better understand political attitudes. Evidence in the Atlas will help inform the development and implementation of policies that are closer to citizens’ needs.
• The Atlas of Demography is a new interactive knowledge management tool. The online platform enables policy-makers and citizens to observe, monitor and anticipate demographic challenges.

KEY FEATURES OF THE ATLAS

 High-resolution geographic coverage: a quick access to a comprehensive body of demographic data and knowledge featuring a strong territorial and forward-looking approach at the EU, national, regional and local level. The Atlas contains official statistics and projections from Eurostat and new data at high spatial resolution produced by the JRC.

• Thematic sections: the Atlas will contain thematic stories linking demographic trends to specific policy contexts. In the first edition, the stories represent facts and figures related to the main findings of the Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) report “Demographic Landscape of EU Territories – Challenges and Opportunities in Diversely Ageing Regions”.
• A “living” tool that will evolve in response to new policy needs: the Atlas will further develop with Release 2.0 in December 2021, integrating demographic determinants and projections at a similar high level of A Release 3.0 in December 2022 will go beyond the EU and provide a global coverage.
